Mobile "Seed to Fuel" Processor to Help Tobacco Farmers

North Carolina's traditional tobacco farms are switching to other crops, so the state’s Southeastern Community College in Whiteville, has initiated a program to educate farmers on the ins-and-outs of biodiesel manufacturing, anticipating producers will be growing more oilseeds in the future. Southeastern Community College will be using a mobile biodiesel processor built by Jerome, Arizona-based Verde Biofuel for this program. While the processor is for educational purposes, demonstrating how various seeds can be turned into fuel.

Western Heritage Furniture 'green' all along

Verde Biofuel was started by Tim McClellan, also CEO of Western Heritage furniture. Tim has applied green ideals to his business since he founded Western Heritage Furniture in Seattle in 1991. Creating beautiful hand-made furniture from salvaged buildings and barns may be one of the best examples of recycling around. That's what McClellan and his 17 employees in Jerome do every day.

Colleges convert cooking oil into biodiesel fuel

Forgive the students at Sinclair Community College if they get the munchies when they pass the tractors that cut grass, blow leaves or sweep snow on campus: Oil that once cooked french fries and onion rings is being used to power the vehicles.

Students have begun making biodiesel fuel by converting used cooking oil from the dining hall. Biodiesel saves the school a little money on gasoline, gives the students lessons in engineering and chemistry, and removes oil from the waste stream.
